Tours:
Tours are always welcome, for school classes, daycares, tour groups, and other organizations- just call the Museum to set up a time and date. After-hours tours are also available by arrangement. We offer a summer adobe-making lesson for children, in which all participants are guaranteed to get wet & muddy! Each participant makes their own adobe block to take home; when dry, participants can build whatever they want!
Local daycares and end-of-the-year school classes enjoy adobe making lessons. Just call us to set up a time and we'll do the rest. Seek & Find questions are available for school classes, and we always welcome home-schoolers too.

Programs
: We are also available to present a program to your school class or organization. Topics for school classes include: Native Americans & Pilgrims (hands-on objects used by early natives & settlers); Pioneer Children (slide show); When Is A Rock Not A Rock? (hands-on samples of local geology featuring meteor slag, fossils, petrified wood, sulfur, coal, etc.). We can also custom-prepare a program based on what your class is currently studying—just give us a call. For adult groups, we have programs on such topics as: White Renegade (slide stills of an early western movie filmed locally); The DeAutremonts of Lakewood (slide images telling the story of three local brothers that committed one of the last train robberies in the 1920s); 1951 Oldsmobile training film (as part of our ongoing restoration of a 1951 Rocket 88 Oldsmobile, this truly dreadful sales training video must be seen to be believed); News Of The Weird (a collection of strange but true stories from Artesia’s past); Roads Through New Mexico (maps illustrate some of the early routes through New Mexico, focusing on the Butterfield Stagecoach Line, the Ozark Highway Trail, and Route 66); Fashions 1900-1950; Apollo 14 (Artesian Edgar Mitchell was one of the astronauts on this mission); Bridges Over New Mexico; Women’s History in the Pecos Valley, and of course, Early Images of Artesia.

Videotapes:
We have several videotapes available for loan, including: “Fighter Aces of WWII”, “A History of the Guadalupe Mountains”, “The Santa Fe Trail”, “Gems & Minerals”, Rehabilitating Historic Buildings”, and “In Their Own Words—New Mexico Veterans of WWII”.

Off-Site Exhibits:
If your organization has an upcoming event and would like for the Museum to provide a historic display for it, please give us plenty of time to prepare! We may need to view your facility to assess your needs, the space available, and to evaluate any security issues. Fabricating, researching and installing any display takes time too!

Research Assistance
: We are happy to assist with any requests for information. We do ask that you be aware that we get a lot of these requests and that they are answered in the order in which we receive them—please be patient! If you are planning a research visit to our Museum, contacting us in advance is strongly recommended so that we can retrieve the information you are looking for—we are sometimes quite busy and cannot drop what we are doing to spend several hours working on your request! We cannot provide appraisals on any objects—this is not only against the code of ethics of the American Association of Museums due to possible conflicts of interest from museums that purchase objects for their collection, but also a service that requires specialized training and licensing. For an informal “guesstimate” we suggest that you look around in local antique stores for comparable objects, or contact an antique auctioneer. If you need an official appraisal you will need to contact a professional.
